Juana with one of her 12 children and a basket full of corn, the Maya staple. This family lives right across the path from Ana's family in a similar dirt floor house, with a spectacular view of Lake Atitlan and 3 volcanoes. Some of her daughters are still going to school - one is in high school, while others never attended classes or dropped out after second grade to sell the family's weavings to tourists in Panajachel. Juana and her husband tell me that they don't plan on having any more children.
