My friend Paco,a true Gaurijo. I've known and photographed him over 9 years - he had celebrated his 70th birthday the day before we showed up in the early morning. He owns the tobacco fields in this neighborhood and hires out workers such as Pancho and Pepe to work the fields. He must sell most of his crops to the government for a set price, but is allowed to keep some for personal consumption. We visited the homes of many of his neighbors and they all seem to regard him and his wife very highly. They told me he was always there to help them when they suffered difficult times. For me, the highlight of the trips to Cuba was when I brought my groups to Paco's house and his family made a big dinner for us, and we all drank home-made mojitos and smoked freshly-rolled cigars. Not to mention a cafe fuerte after dinner - the traditional Cuban coffee - similar to espresso.
